Getting an induction hob can be an exciting time – however, it can also be a bit daunting, especially when we’re used to more traditional ways of cooking. However, brands such as Schott Ceran are helping to make induction cooking all the easier for us.

Their control panels can be quite self-explanatory – however, they can also be a little confusing. Even turning on the appliance can be a hassle if you don’t have access to your instruction manual.

If you’ve misplaced your Schott Ceran induction hob manual and want to know how to power it on and off with ease, keep reading for the full lowdown.

Turning on your Schott Ceran induction hob

Simply locate the on/off switch on the control panel, then press it. You will then need to select a ring or zone and a temperature in order to keep the appliance on. If you do not press any of the other buttons after turning on the appliance, then it will automatically turn off.

Auto turn-off is a great function that will help to keep you and your family safe, and to ensure that you can still expect precision cooking. Therefore, if you’ve noticed your hob switching off and you’re unsure why, it’s worth keeping this function in mind.

However, you may have found that despite doing all of this, your induction hob is still not turning on. So, what is the problem?

I can’t turn my Schott Ceran induction hob on – help!

First of all, don’t panic. If your Schott Ceran hob isn’t powering up through the usual method, it doesn’t necessarily mean there’s an underlying problem. In fact, there may be a few common reasons why your hob isn’t responding as you expect it to.

Below, we cover a few of the common reasons why the Schott Ceran induction hob system has been known to power on slowly or not at all. However, it’s always a good idea to have the details for Schott Ceran customer care handy just in case.

In the meantime, your power-up problems may be related to any of the following:

Your appliance is locked

The on/off switch will work while your appliance is locked – however, you will not be able to set a temperature or even turn on a ring while it is in this state. You will therefore need to unlock the appliance before using it.

You will know that the appliance is locked if you see the letter L appear on the light display when you try to use the induction hob. Turn it off by holding the on/off switch for about two seconds to unlock the hub. Then, press and hold the plus and minus symbols for about ten seconds. Then, press the minus symbol alone for about five seconds before switching the hob on again. The induction hob should now be unlocked.

You’re using the wrong pots and pans

As you may know, induction hobs will only work with induction pots and pans. This is due to the fact that induction hobs heat up using a magnetic field – the coil beneath your hob’s surface and the magnetic base of your cookware will connect together.

Therefore, it’s always a good idea to invest in cookware built from stainless steel or from cast iron – as these will connect directly to your cooking zones. What’s more, you may also need to make sure your pots and pans are the right size for your chosen zone(s).

Something is covering the induction hob

Whether it is a cloth, cooking utensils, or too many plates, pots, or pans covering the hob, if there is something on there that the cooktop that your appliance cannot recognise and is ill-placed, then it will not heat up.

Ensure that the hob is clear before you start using it, and remember to only put the pots and pans on the correct zones. This issue will occur if you can see that your Schott Ceran appliance is powering up, but simply not cooking.

Your induction hob needs cleaning

Induction hobs need that perfect connection between coils and the magnetic bases of pots and pans. Therefore, when liquid, food or another kind of debris is covering the hob, it can interfere with the connections and prevent the hob from heating up.

That is why it is always best to clean your hob after every use. Even before using it, it is best to wipe over it with a clean, dry, soft cloth to ensure that there is nothing that will interfere with the connections. It is also wise to wipe the bottoms of your pots and pans before using them to ensure that there is nothing that has dried beneath them that could damage the hob as you are cooking.

Your induction hob has not been connected properly

Another possibility could be that the induction hob has not been connected properly during installation. If you have checked all of the other possibilities, then it is a good idea to contact a professional to come and verify the connections from the circuits to your induction hob.

If you have a warranty in place or home and contents insurance cover, you may be able to claim for an engineer visit free of charge. It’s always worth considering different types of warranty cover just in case scenarios like this occur.

There’s a fault with the hob itself

Again, if you’ve tried all of the above and your Scott Ceran induction hob still isn’t turning on properly, it’s best to reach out to the manufacturer directly. They will likely help you troubleshoot the problem, and may even send an engineer of their own to investigate.

If there’s a fault with the hob and it’s not your fault, again, you may be covered by warranty to receive a free repair or replacement. Double-check your warranty documents and make sure that you’re covered before you call. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
